"In the beginning, the Web was simple"

Conclusion

The World Wide Web was invented by a man called Tim Berners Lee, an he is still alive today. In fact, you can send him an email and he could quite possibly respond. Imagine if you could send an email to Alexander Graham Bell and ask him why he decided to invent the telephone. You can ask Berners Lee, Grahams predecessor in inventing communication devices that have changed the way the world exchanges information, just why he created the World Wide Web.

There are many key qualities an e-journalilst must have in order to become effective and prosperous in their chosen career. The e-journalist must first take time for "piano lessons"; this is time spent learning new software (because software is continuously being revised and updated) and how to use their tools fast, efficiently and ultimately to their advantage. It is so important to take the time to learn the software that allows the world to experience online news and to learn how to troubleshoot all of the idiosyncracies that come with each new piece of software.

Very often an e-journalist will work in a team environment. This makes the work exciting, keeps it fresh and fosters an atmosphere of original ideas and creativity. A key factor in keeping the environment exciting and original is patience. A quality that is rare in the journalism industry, but one that is needed to communicate ideas effectively. The work of an e-journalist requires so much attention to detail and interaction with others that without patience, the road to achieving an effective online news site would be difficult and frustrating for all parties involved.

There are so many different protocols to follow, definitions to remember, rationales to explain and competencies to demonstrate as an e-journalist but the end result is what all e-journalists aim to achieve and hope for. The end result being excellence.

Online journalism has changed the way the world communicates. Some would argue it takes money to make the world go 'round but online journalists would beg to differ. Communication is what will get the money that makes the world go 'round.

Online journalism is soon becoming the fastest growing journalism medium relied upon by readers. The invention of the Internet and the World Wide Web have been some of the largest advancements in communication in the past 60 years, it is exciting to think what possibilities the next 60 years hold.

Somewhere in this world sits a man or woman in their basement inventing the next big device since the World Wide Web waiting to be discovered as the next Graham Bell or Berners Lee. Only time will tell and no one can predict what technological advancements will be made.

The only thing left to do is be patient, discover what we already have in front of us and hope that the next invention will be as exciting and original as the Web has been. what was that again?

“The web is more a social creation than a technical one.
I designed it for a social effect – to help people work together – and not as a technical toy. The ultimate goal of the web is to support and improve our web-like existence in the world.” - Weaving the Web (©2000)
